Bio:
Bill is a frequent lecturer an judge for camera clubs and other organizations throughout New England and beyond. He is a member of The Photographic Society of Americas (PSA), the New Have Camera Club, and the Connecticut Association of Photographers. He is a vice-president on the New England Camera Clun Council (NECCC) board as co-director of the Interclub Projected Inage Competitions.
For his work on behalf of the photographic community, he was elected a Fellow (FPSA) by PSA and Honorary Member (HonNEC) by NECCC. For his photographic skills he has received the distinctions of Grand Master (GMPSA) fro PSA and Artiste (AFIAP) from the Federation Internationale de l’Art Photographiique. In 2019 Bill received the PSA Ashbrook Award for Digital Imaging Instruction.
In PSA recognized salons Bill has earned two Diamond Awards (color class) in the Projected Image Division, five Galaxy Awards in the Photo Travel Division, and five Stars in both the Nature and Photo Journalism Divisions. He has earned numerous awards for photo essays in the Projected Image and Photo Travel Divisions.
For many years Bill pursued a hybrid approach to his photography where live narration, stills, video clips, and sound files were combined to create travel presentations and essays with more production values than is possible using just still photographs. Recently as he has traveled less he has taken a project oriented approach to his photography where he pursues interesting subjects closer to home.
Artist Statement:
My interest in photography started in high school. I developed black and white film and made my own enlargements. I became a much more serious photographer after I moved to Connecticut following graduate school and, in 1970, joined both the Color Camera Club of Westchester NY and the Photographic Society of America (PSA). During the next fifteen years I enjoyed CCCW’s many activities and found mentors among the members, many who were also active in PSA.
I have tried many different types of photography over the years. By far travel and cultural photography are my favorites. Creating shows using my images to present to a variety of different audiences makes this type of photography even more fun.
Over the years photography has helped me see the world much more deeply than I would have without it. Instead of superficially looking at the things around me, I look for images, image sequences and video clips that tell stories. Creating lectures after slected trips allowed me to: relive the experiences; dleve even more into the underlying stories that my images told; and share my images with others.
Topic: Infared CT
Today there is a lot of interest in infrared photography. It is a way to explore new worlds and capture fine art images. It changes the appearance of an image by creating false tones or colors. It stimulates your creativity. In this program, Bill will explore what infrared (actually near-infrared) radiation is and how it renders photographs of the world. Pure infrared radiation produces only black and white images, but also including part of the visible spectrum allows colored images to be created. The images shown in this program are the result of an extended personal project where images from across Connecticut were captured using a series of filters. Filters include a normal visible filter and a variety of filters that admitted infrared radiation plus part of the visible spectrum. Each filter produced a different result. Bill will begin by briefly describing the Infrared Connecticut project and the reasons it was undertaken. He will describe the equipment used and compare the photographs that can be obtained using different filters. Finally, he will describe the post-processing steps required for each type of filter. The presentation will conclude with a showcase selected from the many images captured during the project.

Topic: The Power of Contrast:
Why contrast is so critically important -- HOW and WHERE you use it makes all the difference!
• Did you know you can actually control your audience to follow a path in your images in a certain order and sequence?
• Are you aware that carefully placed contrast plays a critically important role in whether your images are experienced in a pleasing way, or with strain?
• Have you mastered the secret of making an image come to life and “pop?”
• Need ideas to improve the “resting place” for your viewer’s eye as they navigate your image?

These critical components of powerful images can all be significantly enhanced by the proper use of contrast. There are special techniques that can be accomplished in-the-field as well as during post-processing that will amaze you.
We will explore before-and-after examples and teach you how you can do so with your own images simply and effectively. Get ready for a game-changer!
Whether you are controlling for contrast in your exposures themselves, and/or in post-processing, this fun, informative and interactive session will help you learn the tricks and techniques necessary to make your images go from drab to fab!

Bio: Lisa Langell is a full-time, award-winning photographer whose work has appeared in numerous prestigious publications including the cover of Outdoor Photographer magazine, plus numerous images in Arizona Highways, Ranger Rick, art galleries and more. She currently sits on the Board of Directors for the North American Nature Photography Association. She is also a proud ambassador for Tamron, FotoPro, and H&Y filters.
Whether it was working as a master floral designer, a licensed psychologist, university faculty, an international consultant in K-12 education, the Chief Business Development Officer of an education technology company, a researcher, a writer, or an artist—she enjoyed meeting each challenge.
Still, her strongest calling was photography--ever since childhood--when bird watching ignited her lifelong love of nature and the camera. In 2010, she turned her passion for photography into a business—and in 2015 she successfully transitioned to photography full-time and left the corporate and consulting world behind.
The journey with photography has definitely been Lisa’s favorite – she loves combining her diverse background and skills into her photographic art and instruction. Bringing joy to others brings joy to her! She thrives on creating innovative learning experiences and pushing photographic boundaries. She equally enjoys enriching, stimulating and expanding fellow photographers’ minds emotionally, creatively and intellectually.

Bio:
As a Pulitzer Prize-winning editorial and commercial photographer, San Francisco-based Deanne Fitzmaurice is most known for her unique ability to go behind the scenes to discover and convey personal, intimate and emotional stories through images. Fitzmaurice, a Nikon Ambassador, is an assignment photographer with publications including Sports Illustrated, ESPN, National Geographic and many other respected outlets. Deanne has also partnered with foundations and non-profits including the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the Lucile Packard Foundation. Deanne’s commercial clients include Apple, Nike, Google and Facebook.
In 2011, Deanne’s documentary work was a finalist for the Alexia Foundation Grant for World Peace. In 2011, 2013, 2015, and 2017 she was presented with the American Photography Awards and in 2013 her work was selected for Communication Arts Photography Annual. Deanne’s work has also received awards from Pictures of the Year International, NPPA Best of Photojournalism, and the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. Her work is part of the permanent collection at the Newseum, and is also part of their traveling exhibition of Pulitzer winning photographs. Deanne's work has also been exhibited at Visa pour L’Image in Perpignan, France, and with UNICEF Photo of the Year. In 2010 Deanne partnered with writer Joan Ryan and published Freak Season, documenting Tim Lincecum's road to The World Series. She has also been a contract photographer for the best-selling Day in the Life books.
After earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Academy of Art University, she began her career as a staff photographer for the San Francisco Chronicle. When not on assignment, Deanne often lectures and teaches workshops. She is proud to be a Nikon Ambassador and the co-founder of Think Tank Photo, with her husband, photographer Kurt Rogers.

Deanne is going to take you on a journey from her early days as a staff photojournalist at the San Francisco Chronicle to her work today as a Visual Storyteller. She’ll share with you some lessons learned and pivot points with it all leading to the backbone of her work –– building relationships and trust with the goal of shining a light through Storytelling.

John’s Bio
I always created images, but I was never “a photographer.” I told myself I wasn’t creative. I wasn’t artistic. My stick figures were failures. But I had this new camera and I wanted to learn how to use it. On the first night of my first photo workshop, I stared in awe at the images shared by the group. The dream of being a “good” photographer was born. I sought out great photographers like Dan Sniffin, Tony Sweet and Nancy Rotenberg and I emulated them, listened to them, and learned from them. But I became a photographer in my own right when Nancy forbade me to look through anyone else’s viewfinder for the entire duration of an epic trip to Africa. “Follow YOUR vision,” she said, “and make the pictures that only you can see.” Doubtful, but willing, I began looking for the images that spoke directly to me, that pulled my eye or aroused my imagination. I looked for connection, and found my photographer self.
I created my program “Dream • Believe • Create” to reflect my artistic journey. I began my journey with few skills, but aspired to be better. I watched and learned, gained a bit of confidence, and then began to see photography not only as a reflection of the world around me, but also as the representation of the reality inside me. My photographic journey freed me to create what was uniquely mine. Being genuinely aware of the beauty around me as I look through my lens feeds my soul and brings me great joy. I encourage the participants in my workshops to share that journey and discover the artist residing inside each of them.
Following that inner eye, I photograph whatever makes my heart sing. I have explored diverse subjects and continue to learn processing techniques that bring my vision to life. I am eager to share my journey with my tour members, to help them pay attention to what turns their heads, to help them feel more connected to the experience of making unique images that make their hearts, too, sing.

Topic: Through the Lens of Love

If you are like me, you've probably chased after images, even images you might have seen searching for inspiration on social media. You may have even created a checklist to be sure you got exactly what you planned for. You have likely going out with expectations only to be disappointed when the conditions were not right, or you did not find what you had hoped for.

Realizing that photography is a creative art form, i am constantly exploring new ways to connect with my subject rather than just photograph what I am drawn to. Love? Really? What does love have to do with it? That is what this presentation will disclose. How does the love of my subjects influence my photography ? It boils down to this -- I photograph what makes my heart sing!

In this presentation, I will share stories an day thoughts from a 20 year journey to where I now look through the lens of love. I hope you will join me.

What makes an artistic bird photo different then just a standard documentary bird portrait? Ray will be discussing and showing all the methods he uses such as light, space, bokeh, getting close, capturing action and using hides to create unique bird photos that are a joy to look at.
Ray be sharing nearly 200 photographs during this presentation. Be ready for a wide variety of unique and different bird photo
