Program Meeting: How to create a winning image
March 8, 2017 @ 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Unfortunately, our scheduled speaker canceled. In its place We have asked John and Kathryn to speak.
John Hoyt and Kathryn Harris will present a framework for analyzing an image, which can be used to direct the software editing process.
We will have several images as both RAW files and as the finished photo to use as examples. Our intent is to focus first on identifying what works about an image, and how that
can be enhanced (crop, dodge, burn, graduated filter, etc) using a basic editing program (Lightroom). Our hope is to emphasize the point the there is no one set of
software or magic plug-ins which will produce winning images – rather, it is a unique workflow that each photographer needs to evolve which will develop the
skills of both analysis and the selective use of software which will best enhance the image. While we may demonstrate some of the editing steps in our talk, our focus
will be on the process more than the specific tools.
We will show some images that worked and some that did not—knowing when to stop and move on is important for all of us. It would be great if the other club
members could also volunteer some examples for this talk. If you would like to have your images included in this talk, please bring them on a memory stick to the
meeting. At the same meeting John Hoyt will give a mentoring talk on methods to clean and care for your photographic equipment (cameras, lenses, tripods, etc).
